IMMUNE DRINK: Exercising in the cold?

Low temperatures are not necessarily a reason to stop outdoor exercises such as jogging or cycling. Outdoor sport carried out at temperatures slightly below zero usually presents no problems - if you are appropriately dressed and properly prepared. However, athletes do need to follow some simple rules in order to protect their bodies and respiratory tracts as optimally as possible. During exercise, a lot of dry, cold air is inhaled which cools and dries out the mucous membranes in your respiratory tract. For healthy individuals, temperatures around zero degrees centigrade are not a problem. However, some susceptible people might react with a dry cough or develop other symptoms.

During the winter months, endurance sports with uniform exertion such as cross-country skiing, hiking, walking and jogging are ideal because respiration is less intense and in general breathing through the nostrils provides a sufficient quantity of air.

Exercising or playing sports in the cold creates additional stress for the immune system. If the mucous membranes dry out, the transport of secretion is hindered. Germs are usually removed by sneezing or are flushed down into the acidic stomach where they are killed. Dry mucous membranes make it easier for viruses to settle and spread.

Innovative concept: IMMUNE CARBO-Drink

During the development of the IMMUNE CARBO drinks for sportspeople who are not discouraged by wind and low temperatures, the experts at Biohealth International had precisely these requirements in mind. Yvonne, nutrition scientist and product developer at Biohealth explains: “The intake of a sufficient amount of fluids during intense exercise is recommended, preferably an isotonic drink which compensates for the losses of water and nutrients during endurance sports.”

The combination of selected vitamins and minerals supports the functioning of the immune system. Especially the high-dose vitamin C leads to a reduction of ‘the open-window effect’. ‘Open Window’ is the name of the immunological gap that occurs after physical exertion. The sports drink with its refreshing ginger-lemon flavor is 100% natural and thus does not contain any artificial additives or sweeteners. And best of all: As well as having a well-balanced vitamin mineral complex, the drink also contains a very special carbohydrate: Palatinose™.

Fully available carbohydrate

Palatinose™ (isomaltulose) is a fully available carbohydrate and low glycemic. Since this substance is slowly digested and absorbed in the small intestine, the energy provided has a lesser effect on the blood glucose levels.

Lower blood glucose rise

Consumption of drinks containing isomaltulose instead of sugar induces a lower blood glucose rise after their consumption compared to other sugar-containing drinks. The physiological properties of Palatinose™ have been thoroughly studied and established in a comprehensive body of research.
