Biohealth is building a new central warehouse

15 million euros for the Münchberg site

Today, we marked the start of construction of our new, fully automated central warehouse at our headquarters in Münchberg with a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony. We are investing around 15 million euros in this project. The new facility will enable us to consolidate and expand our existing logistics capacities, laying the foundations for more efficient logistics processes and an even closer link to our digitalised production.

Consolidating logistics processes in Münchberg

With this project, we are continuing our long-term investment strategy at our Münchberg site and creating new opportunities to further develop our logistics processes in a targeted manner.

We currently store our goods in two external warehouses in Münchberg and Sparneck, alongside our head office. However, having our storage capacity spread across these locations results in additional transport distances and greater logistical effort. With our new central warehouse, we will in future consolidate these capacities at a single central location: Am Ötzelsteich 11, near Heinrich-Wirth-Straße. This will enable us to reduce transport distances and integrate our logistics even more closely with the flow of goods from our production facilities.

We will fully integrate our existing warehouse staff into the new processes. To this end, we will adjust the allocation of tasks without reducing our workforce.

Around 6,500 storage bays covering 5,700 square metres

The new central warehouse is being built on a site covering around 5,700 square metres and will provide space for approximately 6,500 storage bays. The initial groundworks and excavation work are already scheduled for the end of August 2026. According to the current construction schedule, the new building is due to be completed by the end of March 2028.

The new infrastructure is not only designed to expand our storage capacity. At the same time, we are laying the groundwork for more efficient and highly digitalised logistics processes.

Fully automated logistics

For seamless integration with our digital production

Our new central warehouse is fully automated and meets all the standards required of a food-grade facility. One of the key aspects of this is that no staff will be moving around within the actual storage area itself. This means that staff receive the goods and transfer them from wooden to plastic pallets. The automated storage system then takes over the storage process. In future, selected products can even be retrieved automatically at the touch of a button.

Full automation enables us to integrate the central warehouse seamlessly into our digitalised production process. At the same time, our internal processes benefit from shorter transport routes and direct access to stock levels.

Optimised processes

For our customers and for ourselves

The new building will enable us to optimise our logistics processes in a number of areas. For example, the production, weighing and mixing departments will have direct access to the central warehouse. This will eliminate time-consuming internal transport operations.

The number of loading bays for lorries will also be increased. This will enable us to organise loading and unloading operations, the allocation of gates and the preparation of collections more quickly in future.

For our customers, the new infrastructure means, above all, faster and quality-assured processes. At the same time, by eliminating the movement of goods between our previous external warehouses, we are reducing the risk of contamination.

Our goal is clear: we want to integrate competitiveness, efficiency, speed, logistics and digitalised production even more closely in future.

Designed with energy efficiency in mind

Photovoltaic system and heat recovery

We are also taking energy efficiency into account when planning our new warehouse. We are installing a photovoltaic system on the roof of the new building. In addition, we plan to connect it to the heat recovery system of the heat generators.

In this way, we are combining the expansion of our logistics capacity with investments in more efficient processes, digitalisation and energy efficiency.

Biohealth is investing around 25 million euros over a few years

The construction of our new central warehouse forms part of the long-term development of our site in Münchberg. Until 2024, we invested around 10 million euros in buildings, plant and the digitalisation of our production.

With the 15 million euros now earmarked for the new central warehouse, we will have invested around 25 million euros in the further development of our site within just a few years.

This sends a clear signal regarding the long-term development of our headquarters. Münchberg remains the central hub where we concentrate our value creation and continue to develop our structures for the future.
