Longevity through nutrition and supplements

Healthy aging starts today

The desire to stay healthy and active for as long as possible is on the minds of more and more people – even at a younger age. The term ‘longevity’ brings healthy aging through a conscious lifestyle into focus. Alongside exercise and sufficient sleep, a balanced nutrition and targeted support from supplements play a crucial role in this.

Consumers are currently actively seeking out product ranges that support, amongst other things, cell health, energy levels, mental performance and sleep quality. Consequently, demand for longevity supplements in various forms and with different ingredients is growing significantly.

Longevity is booming

A market experiencing tremendous growth

The longevity market is growing rapidly worldwide. This growth is driven, amongst other factors, by demographic change, increasing health awareness and new scientific findings relating to cell health and healthy aging. Market research firms forecast that the global longevity market will continue to see significant growth in the coming years. According to a recent analysis by Mordor Intelligence, the market is expected to grow to USD 31.63 billion as early as 2026 and, with a CAGR of 8.18% over the period 2026–2031, to reach a value of USD 46.86 billion by 2031.

These ingredients play a role

Ingredient #1Nikotinamide als Formel

NAD+

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a coenzyme produced naturally by the body that plays a role in mitochondrial energy metabolism. Between the ages of 30 and 40, NAD+ levels begin to decline, which is why it is a popular ingredient in longevity supplements. Initial studies have shown that higher NAD+ levels activate cellular cleansing and slow down aging processes. The compound is also said to have a positive effect on mental well-being, reducing exhaustion and fatigue.

Ingredient #2Q10 als Formel

Coenzyme Q10

As a powerful antioxidant, coenzyme Q10 is of great interest in longevity research. It can be produced naturally by the human body from phenylalanine or tyrosine and regulates ATP production in the mitochondria. This makes it a key component of human energy metabolism. Furthermore, the active ingredient is thought to protect our cells from oxidative stress and thus promote cellular health.

Ingredient #3Spermidin als Formel

Spermidine

Spermidine is found, for example, in soya beans, wheat germ and chlorella algae, and is currently the subject of research, particularly in relation to cell protection, cell renewal and anti-aging. Initial evidence suggests that spermidine promotes the regeneration of skin cells and other body cells in animals. Furthermore, the compound is said to stimulate cellular cleansing processes. It is also claimed that the active ingredient has a positive effect on the maintenance of cognitive functions and memory.

Medicinal mushrooms in the field of longevity

An exciting trend

Alongside traditional micronutrients, medicinal mushrooms are also attracting increasing interest in the field of longevity. Initial studies into species such as Cordyceps and Reishi suggest that certain compounds may influence cellular processes linked to aging and regeneration. Research is also focusing on potential effects on energy levels, the immune system and stress resistance.

Why nutrition and lifestyle remain crucial

Factors contributing to a long life

As well as taking supplements for support, a balanced nutrition and a healthy lifestyle are essential as the foundation for healthy aging. This includes, amongst other things:

  • Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables as a source of natural antioxidants
  • Consuming omega-3 fatty acids, for example from fish
  • Ensuring an adequate intake of high-quality protein to maintain muscle mass
  • Staying well-hydrated
  • Consuming as little sugar, alcohol and highly processed foods as possible

Equally important are regular exercise, sufficient sleep and effective stress management. Endurance training strengthens the cardiovascular system in the long term, strength training helps maintain muscle mass, and relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation can help reduce chronic stress.

Frequently asked questions at a glance

The English word ‘longevity’ means a long life. In the field of health, however, the term describes far more than just a long life. The aim is to extend what is known as ‘healthspan’ – that is, the years spent in good health – for as long as possible and to maintain physical and mental capacity well into old age. This is why longevity is often equated with the term ‘healthy ageing’.

Whilst the topic used to be aimed primarily at older people, younger generations are now also taking an increasing interest in preventive health approaches. A healthy diet, regular exercise and targeted dietary supplements are seen as an investment in one’s own future.

Anti-aging and longevity are often equated, but they take different approaches. Anti-aging focuses primarily on reducing visible or physical signs of ageing. Longevity, on the other hand, takes a holistic view of the individual and aims to extend the period of good health. The focus is on prevention, cell health, metabolism, exercise, nutrition and other factors that can support healthy aging.

A healthy lifestyle forms the basis for longevity. This includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, sufficient sleep and effective stress management. Equally important are not smoking, moderate alcohol consumption and ensuring an adequate intake of essential nutrients. Depending on individual needs, targeted dietary supplements can also be a useful addition to a healthy lifestyle.

The longevity diet refers to a way of eating that provides the body with essential nutrients over the long term and is designed to support healthy ageing. It focuses on plenty of fruit and vegetables, high-quality sources of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, whole grains, adequate fluid intake and supportive dietary supplements. At the same time, it is recommended to reduce the consumption of highly processed foods, excessive sugar and alcohol as much as possible.

In the field of longevity, research into dietary supplements is primarily focused on ingredients such as NAD+, coenzyme Q10 and spermidine. Vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids also play an important role.
