Lozenges, Beauty Collagen and Iced Tea

Keep your eyes peeled for the latest news with us! In this issue, read about how to keep your eyes healthy and how your skin can retain its summery freshness into autumn.

Our eyes – lightweight high performers

Our eyes absorb by far the most information of all our sensory organs. It’s here that we perceive 80 % of the information from our environment. 126 million photoreceptors, 2.5 million nerve fibres, 10 million pieces of information per second – the eye is our most complex and fascinating sensory organ. About 70 % of all sensory cells are concentrated in this body part that weighs just 7.5 g.

Nutrients for the full perspective

For its exceptional performance, the eye relies on specific nutrients, all of which are contained in our eye lozenges with their refreshing orange flavour. Take a closer look at our lozenges and ask for your own personal sample!

Vitamin A – also described as the “eye vitamin”. Together with its precursor beta-carotene, it is essential for forming the retinal protein “visual purple” (rhodopsin). This is important for light and dark vision. If too little rhodopsin forms, it is increasingly difficult to perceive light-to-dark graduations, which can cause night blindness, restricting your vision in the dark. Vitamin A also contributes to maintaining the mucous membranes, which includes the eye conjunctiva. Dry eyes and visual impairment – particularly at night – are indications of a lack of vitamin A in your body.

Vitamins C and E as well as the trace element zinc, act as radical scavengers. Free radicals form in the body using the energy from UV light. These radicals attack cells, a process which is described as oxidative stress, and is attributed to many eye problems and disorders. An adequate supply of vitamins C, E and zinc is therefore important to preserve your eyes.

Selenium also plays a major role in eye health. The mineral is said to be responsible for the effective function of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase. This enzyme is especially found in the eye lens. Glutathione peroxidase is also said to help the breakdown of free radicals.

A sufficient supply of B vitamins such as vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid is also important. The risk of macular degeneration – a degenerative condition where yellow deposits accumulate on the retina – is also said to be reduced with sufficient intake of B vitamins.

Extended summertime beauty

Anyone who wishes to support their sight while also being a sight to behold is well advised to indulge their skin, hair and nails with key nutrients. Their radiance shouldn’t be limited to summer, and so, to ensure this radiance lasts throughout the year, you need some specific vital substances as your companion. The good news is that our “Collagen Iced Tea” combines all these valuable active ingredients while delighting your tastebuds with its exotic chicha morada and green tea flavour. Extend your personal summer with an ice-cold collagen drink.

Zinc is a key element in lots of molecules in the body and helps with wound healing, cell growth and immune defences.

Biotin – the beauty vitamin par excellence – is equally essential for maintaining healthy skin, hair and nails. Biotin is critically involved in major metabolic processes in cell growth, DNA and protein synthesis. Consequently, the vitamin also promotes the regeneration of nail beds and hair roots.

Vitamin A is needed for growth (growth regulation), more specifically the regeneration and development of cells and various tissue.

Vitamin C contributes to the formation of collagen structures and protects cells from oxidative stress.
