More energy, wake-up kick, caffeine, theobromine, truth about taurine, arginine and citrulline boost

Heavy eyelids, constant yawning, losing concentration – early starts in the morning are hard. In this issue, we would like to present a few products that can help you effectively fight tiredness and give you the energy you need to tackle all the challenges of everyday life!

Wake yourself up with caffeine

Coffee is probably the most well-known stimulant. Caffeine is the substance responsible for the stimulating effect of this popular beverage, a chemical compound that is found naturally in various plants (e.g. maté, green tea and guarana). Caffeine can stimulate the central nervous system and the heart rate, which stops tiredness in its tracks and increases concentration.

At Biohealth International, we have developed a practical capsule product for you with plant extracts that contain caffeine. One capsule contains 65 mg caffeine, which is equivalent to the amount of caffeine in an average cup of coffee. This natural caffeine is obtained from extracts of guarana (Paullinia cupana), maté (Ilex paraguariensis) and green tea (Camellia sinensis). As well as caffeine, these plants also contain tannins, which are said to slow down caffeine absorption in the body, ensuring a more consistent and longer-lasting stimulant effect. You can take these Biohealth capsules with you anywhere so that you're ready for a caffeine hit at the first signs of tiredness.

A different kind of boost!

Do you want to give caffeine a miss but still fight your fatigue? Our awakener capsules without caffeine deliver the combined plant power of ginger (Zingiber officinale), turmeric (Curcuma longa), cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.), ginseng (Panax ginseng) and acerola (Malpighia glabra)! Cocoa contains the active ingredient theobromine. This is a stimulant that is similar to caffeine, but with a milder, longer-lasting effect as well as a positive impact on your mood. Ginger and turmeric are also said to have a stimulating effect on the body. The ginseng root extract contained in the capsules is known to promote concentration and the product concept is completed by acerola fruit juice extract. This contains lots of vitamin C that helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue.

Did you know...

that on average, more coffee is drunk in Germany per head than mineral water? Germans drank an average of 167 litres each of this popular hot beverage in 2022. In contrast, they only drank about 130 litres of mineral water and about 89 litres of beer on average.

The truth about taurine

You may know taurine as an ingredient in popular energy drink brands. This little all-rounder is a degradation product of protein elements (amino acids) methionine and cysteine. Although our body can produce taurine itself, it is readily used in food as an added stimulant.

Taurine has gained prominence as a stimulant in energy drinks as it is said to have a regulating effect on the heart rate. However, the stimulating effect is, in fact, based on its popular combination with caffeine. This improves the distribution of the pick-me-up in blood and its boosting effect. Taurine is also said to stabilise cell membranes, have an anti-oxidative effect that protects against free radicals, help burn fat and support nerve cell development. It is precisely this round-up of potentially positive mechanisms of action that makes it a sought-after ingredient in sports products to improve physical and mental performance.

The ultimate pump

In addition to the substances previously mentioned, a mental or physical performance boost can also be achieved by using two specific proteinogenic amino acids – arginine and citrulline. Many body builders, for example, swear by them as this pair of amino acids is said to increase nitric oxide production in the body, expanding vessels to improve circulation in cells such as the muscles and brain. Improved blood flow in turn improves nutrient supply to areas of the body. The result is referred to as a pump effect, which improves the supply to the muscles, increasing their mass. Stimulating substances can also be supplied to the brain much more quickly. In general, arginine and citrulline are said to help the distribution of active ingredients in our bloodstream. Thanks to this pump effect, better results can be achieved much more quickly.
In combination with substances such as readily available glucose, caffeine and taurine, such boosting effects can also be intensified.
